Singapore imposing its Authority on Comics

Ignore the sad attempt at Newspaper-like corny headlines.

Self-confessed chaos magacian and comic book writer, Grant Morrison is set to write Vol 4 of "The Authority". Leading the team of these famously brutal team of superheroes is Jenny Quantum. Take a while guess where's she's from.

Here's a clue, notice the pattern on her shirt.



A little bit of history is required. Suffice to say, I'm a fan of Authority back when it was in the hands of Ellis and Millar, not so much when it when it went into the second and third volumes. Morrison himself is a fantastic writer, if a bit screwy in the head. He's responsible for most of the seminal changes in both the Marvel and DC universes.

The original Authority itself was responsible for the huge changes made in the style of mainstream comics throughout the last decade. It introduced topical global politics, widescreen action, ultraviolence and the only known gay marriage in comicdom to the comic book world. It's a bit weird to associate such a liberal firestorm of controversy with our strait-laced conformist country. But it is Morrison, he once created an entire comic book as a hyper-sigil for the 21st century to use against an invading demonic horde. Like I said, he's slightly screwy in the head.

The artist is Gene Ha. He's a Korean immigrant from Chicago and has worked on some brilliant work in Top 10 and global frequency. I don't know much about his work, but he is going to be the one drawing it for at least 12 issues.

In case no one gets it yet, Jenny Quantum was born in Singapore General Hospital in issue 14 of Authority Vol.1. Whereupon, a battle for her soul completely destroyed half the country. Now she's back, and erm, a little bit pissed about that.

Let us bask in the irony of the title for a moment.
