soooo.. we will probably be seeing a fair share of people who know people who know people who get fined for downloading anime.
im not sure who among us still download anime.. (most likely a few of us still.. wun say who..)
but if the company's that be decide to go on a hunting spree, its safe to assume all of us might also be potential hunting trophies. (taking into account a still undetermined retrospective execution of the said lawsuit) i mean.. didnt we all get gundam seed destiny last time? and lets not forget macross zero. but then again, back then, none of us would know which of the kapillions of anime would be licensed here, so.. does that make it legal? does that spare us from the sniper scope of odex?
5000 SGD is quite a large amount for a fine. but its a number that seems to be a somewhat fair amount considering the demographic it targets.
5000/500 = 10 DSlites fully furnished with top games. !
im not even going to discuss the alleged quality of odex releases. the prices of anime here, the censorship, mentality of downloaders and everything. that will just lead to a cyclical loop of arguments of cant afford versus sucky releases so might as well get free.
are we hip? far from it.
i dont download anime. so im just typing here
the question is.. does this lawsuit open a door to things unseen?
what will happen to odex and its coffers?
will its staff be getting bonuses on how many fines they collect?
what happened to the mission statement of providing good anime?
will their standards drop? or due to influx of funds, be better?
will locals support IP? or support the friendly neighbourhood causeway shop?
will some of us get fined?
